Notes: I happened to rediscover this old fic on a recently re-used hard-drive. Naturally, I decided to clean it up a bit (only a bit) and release it. Please forgive any glaring problems, as I wrote this a very long time ago (two or three years ago).
Disclaimer: Ranma1/2 is not mine; in the US, the distribution rights belong with Viz. This is simply a work of fan appreciation, and not meant to conflict with ownership interests.

Part Two: Nothing as Simple as a Kiss

--------------------------------------------
At some point after Nabiki had cornered him, Ranma found himself corralled into her room. The demands not only came, but they came in waves!
"A kiss? Nabiki, are you out of your mind?? No way!" Ranma frantically stated. This was most definitely not where Ranma wanted to go.
"Ranma, you need the practice. Think of Akane, would she liked to be kissed by an amateur? Besides, I would rather you do something like that now, than to cheat when you are married," lamented Nabiki in a carefully orchestrated tone.
"What?!?!" Ranma exclaimed, immediately moving his head back and forth scanning for an escape route.
"Loosen up Ranma, you are sweating. I'll make sure no one finds out, and I'll cut some off your tab," came the venomously sweet reply.
And so, the discussion lasted for several more minutes. During which time, Nabiki had to stop Ranma from bailing, but she managed (beyond all belief) to keep him there. She knew the whole kissing deal would be hard to pull of, but if it meant an extra yen she would get him to do it. She couldn't believe that Mr. Hero was still afraid of a little championship lip wrestling.
Time had come to prove that a peck on the lips wouldn't kill the guy, or make the world go boom! She leaned in quickly, and pecked Ranma square on the lips.
"Ranma!" she demanded of the now immobilized (with fear) martial artist.
*Snap* *snap* Snapping her fingers in front of his face a couple of times, she tried to get his attention again with his name, "Ranma!"
Thinking that a quick shock would pull him out of it, she did it again, not knowing that Akane was at the door... No, she never noticed the fuming, angry, and generally pissed-off Akane watching every move.
Akane was livid, "Ranma you two-timing JERK! With my own sister; Hell, even I thought you had more *SENSE* than that! You want her; you can have her! And, all of those other hussies can be Nabiki's problem! I hate you, Ranma." Akane stated with a chilled voice filled with bitterness. Then, without a chance for anyone else to get a word in, she bounded out of the room and down the stairs.
Nabiki followed close behind, trying desperately to come up with a lie. This left a vertical, comatose, and very red-faced Saotome in Nabiki's room. If Ranma were coherent, he might have babbled off something in his defense--as if it could help him. In fact, Ranma was probably better off in his non-speaking state.
The general rule in Nerima is that Murphy pulls overtime. In other words, the bad to worse equation has an extra Nerima-Modifier tied in that balances out against the few lucky people who win lotteries. Such is the case here; Soun and Genma return home, and they are just in time to meet Akane as she speeds down the stairs.
"Daddy, Nabiki can have that perverted, thrice-timing, jerk! I saw them kissing, and I want no part of that lecherous, perverted, JERK !!"
Soun did not have the time to fully digest this, as Nabiki was following her sister screaming something about it wasn't what it seemed like. He was taken aback by the crying and shouting, so he immediately began to worry about the future of the schools. Naturally, the whole affair resulted in a very upset Soun crying on Genma-panda's shoulder.
Somewhere, a voice could be heard saying, "Oh my, how did this happen?"
Nabiki had to put a stop to this quick, so she used the first lie that came up. "I was not kissing Ranma, I was checking for a broken tooth. What would *I* want with *your* fiancée?" Nabiki was hopeful that the reminder of Akane's apparent 'possession' of Ranma would help. It didn't.
After several hours, Ranma was once again Nabiki's reluctant fiancée (until Akane cooled off in a few days), and Nabiki had to promise not to sell the dojo. To say Nabiki was irritated would be a grotesque misconception. Used fiancée's just wasn't her style.
After slowly trudging up the stairs, she pushed the still comatose martial artist to his own room. Finishing that, she returned to her room thinking, "Well, that didn't work out in the least. The pig-tailed wonder may not even pucker up for a cure now, let alone Ukyou, and I can kiss that extra bill money good-bye. Damn it. I thought Akane had that stupid knitting whatever today." She fell into an uneasy sleep, hoping that she could patch it all back together soon.

Thursday

"Ahhh, the morning after," thought Kasumi as she served breakfast. "Silly, silly. How many times do they have to do this? If only Akane would open up to Ranma a little bit these things wouldn't happen. As soon as they open up, everything will be OK," she continued her mental mantra while humming a soft soothing tune.
Nobody else shared her optimism; in fact, Soun asked if the heater in the kitchen had broken. Oh, don't forget about the tension in the room; a chain saw couldn't cut that.
Kasumi, however, ignored all of that, and made sure breakfast was served in a very timely fashion with a warm smile.
Akane was the first done with breakfast (by taking a bite, declaring she was done, and rising from the table), and proceeded to leave for school. If one were to pay attention, they would realize that Nabiki wasn't the only Tendo who could put on a cold lifeless expression. Why?
Because, that was the expression Akane used when she said, "Kasumi, I'm going on to school. Nabiki can walk *HER* fiancée to school today; I want no part of that pervert." Then, she snapped her head around and walked out the door. Whether she did it out of pure anger or not was irrelevant, she missed the look of despair that was printed across Ranma's face.
Nabiki didn't do anything out of the ordinary during the morning walk. She knew that it was pretty much her fault that Ranma was in trouble, and felt a certain need to maintain as much grace as possible. Nabiki gathered her bags, and waited for Ranma by the door. They left quietly, as Ranma was mad at Nabiki and she knew better than to start an argument here. "Daddy would freaking kill me, so I'll have to get them back together on my own this time. Damnit, this will cost them later," she thought to herself.
Along the way to school, a medium built American was blocking the way... It was horrible, a true nightmare! It was...

"Nabiki Tendo! I, Gill Bates, will have my lawyers tear yours apart! Do you hear me, you worthless... Aaaaaaaaaaaah!" The sounds of his screams died in the distance. His visage slowly shrinking to non-existence. Ranma maintained the stand he made after hitting Mr.Bates for a few moments. Directly beside him, Nabiki stood perfectly still. This had the effect of showing off something printed on Nabiki's book bag..." B o y c o t t S i c r o M o f t "...

By the time they reached Furinkan, there was no greeting party at the gates. In fact, Kuno and company were long gone. The net effect of this was: Ranma developed a nervous twitch.
Nothing, nobody, no action, and a lack of excitement awaited Ranma. He blankly watched as some leaves fell peacefully to the ground. Nabiki rushed off to collect on whatever debts was owed her, and Ranma walked into the school feeling more alone than he had in a while.
"Hell, Shampoo didn't even glomp me this morning. What I wouldn't do for Ryoga or someone to show up and spice things up again. What the hell am I thinkin'? I've got to convince Akane that I had nothing to do with any of that crap last night, and if anyone shows up I could.... I dun' wanna even think about that!" His pace quickened, and the air of determination collected around him. As he entered the building, he almost seemed to glow. Little did Ranma know that things were about to get more interesting than he ever imagined.
For the most part, the day was uneventful, except for Akane. She kept spreading rumors around the school. She made it appear that Ranma and Nabiki were some kind of item. She was making it increasingly difficult for him to attempt to make up to her.
Ranma was glad when he got the chance to speak to her friend Yukio; she reassured him that all he had to do was admit his love to Akane and everything would be back to normal.
Ranma didn't understand this female concept of "by losing you win". Even Shampoo's old mummy tried this. Ranma wondered if he would ever understand how the fairer sex worked. He was going to tell her how he felt, whenever they next managed to be alone.
Elsewhere, Gosunkugi and Tsubasa finished preparations to bring their plan to life. They felt good enough about their success that Gosunkugi even skipped school to make sure it was pulled off correctly. It was imperative that it was done during school hours to prevent the chance that Ranma, Akane, Nabiki, Ryoga, or anyone else who could expose the ruse weren't physically around the Tendo home.

Lunchtime at the dojo
---oOo--oOo---
The not so great fatherly pair went about peacefully cheating, or is that playing, shogi. They spoke little, as to use the moments of speech to the greatest advantage when making an extra peace disappear. Yet, they were still concerned about the whole engagement affair.
"Tendo, I must insist that there was a mistake in Akane's judgment. The boy seemed too lifeless this morning to be in love with Nabiki," Genma spoke his concern. Just as expected, Soun looked away with hand on cheek, indicating thought. Genma grinned as a piece near the edge of the board disappeared.
"Saotome, I believe you may be right. We will just have to put our foot down with both Akane and Ranma. They must admit their feelings to one another. I believe it to be in everyone's benefit that I speak with Ranma, and you speak with Akane," Soun was sure that this would be right. Also, he managed to put two of his own white pieces back onto the playing field.
That's when the knock on the door came. Not the usual knock at the Tendo's
door, it was more human than that. The door's frame wasn't busted, nor did
the door fly into the actual living area. Far from a wall exploding, this
was a knock that any normal family would expect. This simple act of knocking
on the door would be normal for most
people in the world, at least those with doors... However, this should have
been an indication of trouble for the Tendo household. The fact that it
should have set off some sort of alarm went completely unnoticed.
When Soun finally noted the knock at the door, he asked Kasumi to answer, and Genma managed to change a few more shogi pieces.
A few moments later, a rather smelly man stood within the walls of the Tendo home. "Wheee el, Sooooooo-un *hic* old buddy, long time no see! I buh-leeve this would be the right time to have that engagement fulfilled."
Kasumi gasped, "Oh, my" at the apparent drunk, who was currently making some sort of demand about an arranged marriage. She simply hoped that it had nothing to do with her.

End Part Two

End Notes: Yes, I have been just sitting on this one. In fact, I've found five chapters of this in total so far. If I remember right, there was a sixth chapter, but I may not be able to find that one. In any case, I'm going to clean them all up and post them. I've only cleaned up the formatting and ran a spell check, so don't be surprised to find an error or three. Oh yeah, sorry about the hyphenation folks--I've got to re-adjust the preferences to this word-processor.
Other points of interest: The time-line is prior to volume 20 of the manga, sorry for leaving that out before. Also, with chapter one I forgot to put in my email address. Gomen. If you have any comments about the story, drop me a line (targhan_aga@yahoo.com). Voting will begin soon for the R/SM Crossover Challenge.
